Installed all updates from Windows Update, but I don't see the wannacry patch.

    Question

  • Seeing the news, I updated several servers with all updates from windows update, but I don't see in the installed updates the patches that should address the ransomeware issue? Do I need to install these manually or something?

  • Hi,

As I replied above,it is include in the later monthly rollup security uapdate. For example,if you installed May monthly rollup update, you don't need to install the old one.

  • Thing I noticed most in everything I've read is how older operating systems are being targeted. I google for Microsoft and wannacry. Nothing. You have to wonder.

  • The vulnerabilities were apparently addressed in March's bulletin, which contains several patches that you'd need to make sure are installed - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms17-010.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396. We auto-approve security updates on our WSUS servers so the patches were deployed to our computers several weeks ago. MS have also released emergency patches for XP and Vista - https://mobile.twitter.com/msuiche/status/863284743940575232.

  • Is there a straight answer for this, is this patch addressed in later security patches or do I have to install the older patch? This is something where the answer should not be this hard to get.

  • Hi,

@Cartman - thanks for the info

As I voted for the answer - I wanted to know if this is the same for other operating systems as well like WinServer 2008 Std/R2 and Win 7 editions ?  IF so,  please advise.

    Thanks in advance - JV
