OAuth's auth digest times out within a minute of obtaining it on calls to the search rest webservice. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

This issue pertains to the on-premises version of SharePoint 2013.

We've written a javascript/jQuery app to query the SharePoint Search Rest service.  To do so, we first obtain an auth digest (for the header) in order to authorize the user for security trimming purposes - then we make the Rest call to the search api.

We have two SharePoint wfe's in a load balanced scenario that we send the rest call to.

On one server, this works fine time over time - the user can continuously query SharePoint search with no problems.

On the other server, it performs an oAuth timeout every minute.  In other words, using Fiddler, we can see that the Search query calls to this server slow down every minute EXACTLY to reauthorize using oAuth.  The oauthtimeinseconds header is set to 1800, yet it still timeouts.

This behavior happens even if we use the SharepointSearchQuery tool on codeplex (to remove any question about our app).

Does anyone know of any hidden place to set oauth timeout, any known issue with this, or have any specific things to check for?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill Richardson

  • Hi Bill,

I recommend to check if the WFE with issue can respond to other requests except search.

Please also check ULS log for detailed error message for further research.
