-
We have 6000 clients + 200 servers. We need to deploy SUP. We infrastructure is:
1xVM: SQL Server 2014
1xVM: Primary Site Server
4xVM: Distribution Poins
We're going to deploy extra VM por SUP....my question is:
Where is better locate WSUS DB ?? in this extra VM (WID) or SQL Server ??

It depends on the "Hardware" specs, but why not using the primary or a DP to host the SUP (using the existing SQL server)?

You can install SUSDB (being used by SUP/WSUS) on the SQL Server that's licensed by the CM license.

Licensing is certainly something that you the customer must account for and so it's ultimately your choice here; however, the answer to this question often depends upon who you ask at Microsoft. We (the MVPs) have recently brought this up again with Microsoft and finally received the opposite answer through official channels.

It's other option...so
1) is better use SQL that WID ?
2) Does SCCM license cover SQL Licence If I use SQL Server for WSUS ??

I'm not sure about the licensing....
There are 2 products on that SQL: SCCM and WSUS although it is true that SCCM use WSUS...

So, we'll to use WID....
Actually our WSUS Database size is 4 GB....any problem to use WID for it ??

Microsoft answer:
Customer may run any number of Instancesof any SQL Server database software included in the Product in one OSEonly for the purpose of supporting that Product and any other Product that includes SQL Server database software.
The part highlighted in yellow covers Configuration Manager and its component. The part highlighted in green covers other products. If we apply the above, we have the following:
1) Is WSUS a component of Configuration Manager?
--No
2) Does WSUS falls under other Products?
--Yes
Does WSUS include SQL Server Technology?
--No
The end result is no for both (1) and (2); therefore, you can't use SQL Server Technology provided through System Center Configuration to support WSUS.

Is WSUS need by CM? Yes and therefore it is license by the SQL license for CM.
Without WSUS you CAN'T use the SUP feature of CM and therefore it is a component of CM. and Therefore it is licensed by the CM SQL.
Like Jason state, we have gotten the exact opposite answer. There was a suggestion that the Lic team will even create an official blog post on the subject too.
