Slow access to Windows file server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am accessing my network shared drive from my PC

MY PC OS is Windows 7 SP1 and my network shared drive is Windows 2008 R2

When opening the windows explorer and click on 'My Computer', it will take a while before I can view all the drives

This happen if my network shared drive is connected

If I access without the  network shared drive connected, I'm able to view the local drive almost instantly

Kindly advise if there are configurations that can be made at either my PC or the Windows file server

    Thank you

  • Hello there,

This issue may occur if a non-Microsoft program that is installed on your computer uses an outdated driver.

  • Hi,

What about other machines? Meanwhile, please latest network adapter driver to improve the performance, please make sure that the network connection is fine.

If issue persists, then I would suggest you use tool ShellExView to disbale third party shell extension in explorer, then check the result.

You can find the tool and "How-To" in the link below:

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

Or use process monitor to trace the process when opening the explorer in the two situations, compare the differences.

  • Hi,

Thank you for the details. I'm sorry that maybe I've not explain better on the issue. It happens if I am to scroll to the sub-folder of the network drive. Accessing to the sub-folder is fine. However, from the sub-folder, if I am to go click on 'My Computer', it will take a few minutes before it shows all the drives that I'm connected to.
