Repetitive SharePoint Error - This Page has been modified since you opened it RRS feed

  • Question

  • We continue to see this same error appear, but we have not been able to determine any consistency to when it occurs, other than when we are attempting to "edit a page" and make a change to a web part (but not a specific page or a specific web part).  Anyone see this come up alot?  (we may see it when working with a site numerous times over a very brief period of time)

  • Hi,

It is a known issue that when you edit a detached page in the pages library and then click Modify Shared Web Part, you are redirected to a "This page has been modified since you opened it" page. This issue has been fixed by KB970946: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970946

    Hope it helps.

  • Hi,

It happened to me before. This is what happened. I opened two IE browsers or tabs. One with regular page view and other with edit page (this is the same page). I modified one web part and exited edit mode. After finishing, I went back to page, which I was not editing and refreshed that page. I got that error, but after that I went back to home page and then to the page I just edited. It did not show error. I am not sure if you had the same situation or not. But probably, when you edit some thing and page is already open in another tab or browser and you click something, it will show that error.

  • Actually we have not had that as an issue with two IE tabs open for the same page/site.  This occurs while working within a single session with the page.

  • Harvell,

Any type of custom controls on the page ?

I have seen some cases where if a custom control on the page is using any of the ASP.NET validators that when updating the page causes the validator's to fire and prevent the page from being updated.

Is the page you are updating a publishing page or just a web part page ?

  • Harvell,

You should also make sure that another process such as a workflow or event receiver isn't acting on the page before your update is completed.

  • Note to dbottjer.

The reason I unmarked your propose as answer of Dmcollough' post was because Dmcollough was just throwing out some ideas for possible problem areas.

If Harvell comes back and indicates that one of those ideas helped him solved his problem, then would be the time to mark that post as propose as answer - if, that is, Harvell didn't mark it as answer himself which would be best.

But until we hear from Dmcollough, that post includes ideas only not definite solutions for this particular user.
