Missing perfomance counters for some databases RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently we restored four databases from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2012 SP1.

After the migration, we run into the same problem described in this post

It has no relationship with Orion software. And one database has all performance counters but the rest databases do not.

The following SQL only returns one database, which confirms the problem.

    SELECT distinct instance_name
    FROM sys.dm_os_performance_counters
    WHERE instance_name in ('DB_A','DB_B','DB_C','DB_D')

There are several ways to fix the problem,

    1. Repair SQL Server

    2. Install Service Pack

    3. unlodctr and lodctr MSSQLSERVER

But all require down time. Is there a way which does not require down time?

  • Hi,

All three cases repairs the counters (lodctr) and needs service restart. There is no way to do it w/o downtime except if you are running an AAG or FCI instance(s) and can failover.

    I hope it helps.
