Filter today's tasks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

God why is this so hard.

I want to use a filter to filter today's tasks so they're the only tasks I can see.  If they belong to a summary then i don't mind the summary being shown or not.

I've tried IIF, different filtering techniques, fields with forumula's referencing other formulas and I cannot for the life of me create, what I thought would be, a simple view.

    Please can someone help.

    thanks

  • Hi Cidr --

You can accomplish this by creating a calculated custom task field that flags tasks that are schedule to be in progress today:

    1. Launch the 'Custom Fields' dialog: 'Project' ribbon tab > 'Custom Fields' command
    2. Select the 'Task' entity type in the upper left corner of the 'Custom Fields' dialog
    3. Select the 'Text' field type in the upper right corner of the 'Custom Fields' dialog
    4. Select an unused text field in the field list, i.e. 'Text1'
    5. Click the 'Rename...' button and enter a name for the new calculated custom field, i.e. 'Today'
    6. Click the 'Formula' button in the 'Custom attributes' section of the 'Custom Fields' dialog
    7. Enter the following formula into the 'Formula' dialog box and click the 'OK' button: IIf(([Start]<=[Current Date]) And ([Finish]>=[Current Date]),"Yes","No")
    8. Click the 'OK' button to close the 'Custom Fields' dialog

Some might suggest using a 'Flag' (yes/no) field rather than a 'Text' field, but I prefer using text fields because I am not restricted to "Yes" and "No" values.

You can now easily create a filter to display today's tasks based on the contents of your new calculated custom field.

    Does this help?

    Good luck!
