Dual NIC for SIP-trunk on co-located mediation and Front End? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a setup with Front End server co-located with Mediation server. Now the company wants to add a direct SIP-trunk from a telco. This will be delivered over IP-VPN all the way to the inside of the network and to the Front End.

I have read somewhere that co-located mediation is not supported for a direct SIP-trunk?? I think I have seen this setup before with a separate NIC for the SIP-trunk......?

    Thanks.

    Brg.

  • Hi Eirik81,

If your VPN could ensure the security of FE server, you do not need dual NIC

  • Hi Eirik81,

Thanks for your reply and waiting.

Based on my research,if you have Dual NIC for SIP-trunk in mediation server allocated on the Front End server, this circumstances is support ,but it is not recommanded, because media bypass cannot achieved. So mediation server will process lots media for conference and codec conversion, if resources are available it should work normally, but it’s better to separate the workloads. There is a similar link you could refer to it.

  • Thanks,

Media Bypass is not supported on the SIP-trunk, so that is not a "problem".

The hardware is not going to be a problem as the usernumbers are not that high. What I want to know, is if I have to use dual NIC to support this on a co-located plattform?

The SIP-trunk is delivered on a secure MPLS IP-VPN to the inside of the production network.
