Exchange 2003-2010 public folder replication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running a mixed environment:  Exchange 2010 SP2 (no rollups yet) and Exchange 2003 SP2.

All active mailboxes have been migrated to 2010 (only a few mailboxes remain on 2003, and will eventually be removed). We have 2 public folder databases on 2003, and we have one new public folder database on 2010 (second database will eventually be created). The 2010 PF database only contained the content for the system folders. While we are able to see the PF hierarchy from the 2010 PF database, we discovered that one user-created public folder does not appear in the 2010 hierarchy.

    *  Have run an Update Hierarchy

    *  Ran get-publicfolder \ -recurse, and I can see a list of most/all the public folders but not the missing one

    *  Seeing an Event 3091 on the 2010 server referring to the missing folder:

Error 0x80070005 occurred while processing an incoming replication message.

    Folder: (6-160CC9) IPM_SUBTREE\NC\FT\Northern Assessment Calendar

    *  No relevant errors running the BPA on 2003/2010 servers

    *  Confirmed birectional mail flow between 2003 PF and 2010 PF servers

    *  Confirmed homeMDB and homeMTA settings were present and correct for Microsoft System Attendent mailbox on 2010 server

    *  I have seen some reports for related issues that were resolved by removing the Servers container under the 2003 Admin group - we still have servers there and cannot do this.

    *  We also see this event 14029 on the 2010 PF server event though its PF database has a replica (no user complaints of F/B issues)
"Couldn't find an Exchange 2010 or later public folder server with a replica for the free/busy folder: EX:/O=<Org>/OU=(2003 Admin Group>"

    *  Currently the MAPI folder subtree is under the 2003 Admin group. We were planning on moving it to the 2010 Admin group once we get all of the PF content replicated.

  • We didn't resolve the problem, but we worked around it by just creating a new PF and copying items from the old PF to the new PF via a client connected to the 2003 public store.

  • I can only change the replica from the 2003 side, as this specific public folder does not appear in the PF hierarchy on 2010 at all. Changing the replicas hasn't seemed to change anything.  As a test, I created a new public folder via a mailbox on 2003 using a 2003 PF database. After a few minutes, it showed up in the 2010 PF hierarchy.
