Updating to windows 10 on SSD

Question
-
I have a Dell XPS all-in-one with a 1TB HD plus a 32GB SSD that used to run (and boot) my Windows 8.1. When I updated there was no option to force windows 10 onto my SSD and now I'm stuck with it on my normal HD, totally wasting my SSD. How do I get Windows 10 to update only into my SSD?Tuesday, March 1, 2016 6:13 AM

Your best option is to re-install windows 10 from an ISO to the SSD. You can also migrate data from your Win 8 environment. Even though you will want to have the data on the HDD, you should go through a migration to make sure all the security and pointers are setup correctly. You can get instructions for doing this at

Updates will be installed on the same driver which you installed Windows. So if you installed Windows on HDD , you will only able to install Windows there.
This is by design and for many reasons including integrity and security of the system.

but my windows 8.1 was on my SSD, yet 10 deleted that and put itself on the SATA 1TB HD, without option to choose.Tuesday, March 1, 2016 5:06 PM

To do the update it requires a certain amount of free space. You probably did not have it. The best way to get it back on your SSD is to wipe and re-pave, 32Gb is far too small.
