system restore not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using a Dell XPS M1730 with Vista Ultimate SP-2. When I open  system restore there are no automatic restore points available. I can create points manually. I found system restore in Task Scheduler and the history folder shows system restore as being executed every day and at startup but it doesn't seem to create a restore point. I have run the sfc\scannow repair utility but it did not repair problem. How do I fix this.

  • How much free space do you have on your drives?

  • I have 274 GB.  I have tried just about everything, read all the articles I could find plus I had a tech look at it and he couldn't resolve the issue either.

  • Try this: disable System Restore, reboot, enable System Restore for C drive only, reboot. Then try to install something (like Direct X Runtimes) and check if System Restore creates the point automatically.
Also open elevated command prompt and enter vssadmin list shadowstorage to check the space available and allocated for Volume Shadow Copy (used by System Restore).
