Windows Geolocation Services RRS feed

    Hi Gurus,

I am looking to find out if windows geo services write any logs or any logging can be enabled.

Service is set to manual (trigger start) so is there any way we can find out what application is actually starting the service.

When we go to Privacy Location Services It just has enable or disable button & only handful of standard apps like 3D Viewer, Camera, Cortana, maps , desktop app viewer, Edge, Skype where you can decide to use location services or not.

We have a specific enterprise apps which use this service to provide the gps details but that app is not listed in the standard apps above. We are having issues with triggered start as sometimes it starts with that app & some times it does not. So how dowe know if it is our app which actually triggers the start of geo location service & it is not something else which is triggering auto starts some time. Is there any way we can see some logs to check which app is actually starting the service or having issuesin starting it.

    Looking forward to response.

    Thanks,

    Aj

  • Hi,

As far as I know, there is no specific event or Windows system built-in log for Geolocation Services, if you want to troubleshooting details about this service, Microsoft free downloadable too -> Process Monitor can be considered. Aslo, Microsoft (TTT)Time Travel Tracing can also be considered.

  • Hi Eve,

Thanks for your response. I have an specific issue with GPS location :

We have an enterprise application which uses the GPS location. Issue is when using GPS radio sensor off the Dell 7212 tough pads it complains that no gps available where as if we run external script which is using geowtacher function , it works all the time. After running the geo watcher function, enterprise application also returns the value.  So we need to find out how gpswatcher could find the GPS value which enterprise application could not find.

    Thanks,

    Ajay

  • Hi,

If problem only happens on specific application, I would recommend you to contact the application developer or supporter and confirm with them about the details.

Also, the tools which I had mentioned above may be helpful, capture details about the process may help you to have further identification.

We are unable to provide more detail log analyzing on the forum as it is beyond the support scope, thank you for your understanding.
