Project 2007 Workspaces - "Tweaking" the permissions under the hood without breaking the connection to Project Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know that there are certain things you should not mess with else you can break the connection between the workspace and project server.  In this particular case, one of my project managers (administrator of a site) team members either to:

    1. Not have the ability to delete items from the workspace at all
    2. If you can't do that, make it to where they do not have access to the Recycle Bin
    3. If you can't do that, not allow them to empty the Recycle Bin

I'm pretty sure #1 is doable (please comment on the others as well in terms of technqiue), but I want to be sure that if we do this, no connections are broken
Also, I assume I can make this change to the central template if we decide we want ALL project workspaces to work in this fashion.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Andy,

Your project site template access are based on the following two Project activities:

    1. any resource in the project, not assigned to any activity, get the READ-ONLY access to that Project site

    2. any resource in the project, assigned to any activity, get the READ-WRITE access to that Project site

further to this there is another category of the permission for the users who has published/saved that project on the server. Now its a default behavior of the server and not really depends upon your PWA permission settings, also unfortunately your assumption in this regard not fully rite :) i.e. you cannot configure and set these permission settings to the site template. any custom permission to the project site has to be configured manually by the project manager.

You have to make it a part of of you Project manager training to adjust the project site settings as per your organization policies once its created and prior to be accessed by the project team members.

Let me know if it helps you.

  • Andy:

Don't forget that you have an administrative recycle bin behind the recycle bins contained in the sites.

  • So, I can't change the central template BUT each project manager can change the site permission to update without delete without breaking the link between the site and project server?
