my xp professional laptop is refused access to windows 7 PC. User name and password required RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have succesfully, in the past, networked two xp proffesional PCs but having changed one of these to windows 7 I have a problem. From the windows 7 PC , I can see all the laptop xp files. But when I try to acess windows7 files from the xp laptop I get a demand for 'user nam'e and 'passwor'd. What is this and how do I sort out the problem?
I have shared all the files on both PCs and not sure what else to do.
I am also confused by the options to set up a network, also a homegroup. It is implied that a home group can only be between two windows 7 machines. Is this true and how do these two things work together?

  • When the Windows XP computer asks for the password and user name, Please input an administrator account of your Windows 7 system. If there is no password set for the Windows 7 user, setup a password and test again.

For HomeGroup, it is for several Windows 7 systems. Previous systems cannot join HomeGroup.
