Client migration from SCCM 2007 to 2012 and different GUID RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to migrate from SCCM2007 to SCCM2012 R2.

After using the migration wizard to migrate collections that have clients as direct members, the associated client objects are created in CM12. In CM12 they have the same GUID as the associated CM07 client and are members of the migrated collection.

From what I have read, to migrate the client I deploy the CM12 client by whatever means (I am testign client push).

When deploying the CM12 client the PC joins the CM12 environment however it is a new object with a new GUID. This means it is not in the migrated collections.

Can anyone explain what behaviour I should expect and what I should do to get the migrated client to use the migrated object and therefore get the same GUID.

    Thanks

  • Direct memberships are not based on the GUID anyway, they are based on ResourceID which will be newly assigned in the 2012 instance so John is correct that they are not maintained.

  • Interesting, the documentation states that the GUID is the same.

The following information is retained on the client device:

The unique identifier (GUID), which associates a client with its information in the Configuration Manager database.

I seem to recall direct membership is not maintained during migration but I could be wrong. Here's all the docs say about it:

When you migrate a collection, you migrate the rules for the collection and not information about the members of the collection or information or objects related to the members of the collection.
