Exchange Server 2013 Misconfigures HTML Messages When Viewing in Plain Text RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are running Exchange 2013 with the latest updates (as of 31 May 2016). Some of our users want to be able to view HTML email notifications in plain text only (with email clients such as Thunderbird, etc.). However, the plain-text version of HTML messages becomes modified so that the message appears garbled with hyperlinks and bits of code exposed. We've tested all sorts of situations and have come to the conclusion that Exchange server is modifying HTML messages so that when they are displayed in plaint text, they are garbled into some sort of RTF or simplified version of HTML, making it difficult for users to decipher the message amongst all the exposed hyperlinks and bits of code.

Any suggestions on how to get Exchange to convert an HTML message into a simple plain text message?

  • What specifically is that latest update, i.e., which cumulative update?

    Try Set-CasMailbox -ImapMessagesRetrievalMimeFormat and/or -PopMessagesRetrievalMimeFormat

  • Thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, this didn't end up making any difference.
