SQL 2016 MP 7.0.0 - Always On Database Replica discovery RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

after upgrading the SQL 2016 MPs to version 7.0.0 the "Database Replica AlwaysOn Discovery" fails with the following error:

    ************************
Event ID: 7105. Management Group: SCOM-DRVB. Script: ModuleAction Module: DatabaseReplicaAlwaysOnDiscovery.ps1 Version: 7.0.0.0 : Error occurred during Always On Database Replica discovery.

    Computer: SQL-Server-Name
Reason: Cannot find type [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server]: verify that the assembly containing this type is loaded.
    Position:82
    Offset:13
    Instance:InstanceName
Detailed error output: Cannot find type [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server]: verify that the assembly containing this type is loaded.

Cannot find path 'HKLM:\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\ClientSetup\' because it does not exist.

    --------

The "cannot find path" errors are correct. The path with the "130" SQL version is existing and is not listed above. The others paths simply do not exist. Has anyone seen this before? Any tips how to solve this?

    Regards
    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

The SQL MP Team has already got a release containing the fix but we're distributing it as a "private drop." Please contact us at sqlmpsfeedback@microsoft.com to request the updated version.

  • Hi Robert,

It is not official, but it seems that this is a bug in the 7.0.0.0 version of the SQL MP that affects AlwaysOn Discovery. This was first reported a couple of weeeks ago (actually right after the new version of the SQL MP has been released) and many have confirmed it up to now:

    Cannot find type [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server]

In te mean time I can confirm that this is an issue I face in each Always On implementation, being monitored with the new SQL MP version. The way I see it you have two options:

    - Ignore or temporary override the AklwaysOn dioscvery alerts. This shouldn't be a problem, considering the fact that the discovery is working.

    - You can revert back to the previous SQL MP version - 6.7.31.0

Let's hope it will be fixed soon.

  • Hi Stoyan,

thanks, it is good to know, that the discoveries are working... So I can ignore the alerts until the next MP release.
