Solved: Hyper-v Centos 6.2 guest killing Windows 2012 server preview RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed the windows 2012 server preview on a desktop system (AMD processor, 8 GIG RAM, Intel pro ether net card. Enabling networking networking on a Centos 6.2 guest VM with Linux Integration services v3.3 causes the host to reboot. After looking through the forums here, I did disable tcp offloading to the NIC, but still see extreme instability. I am seeing this issue on 2 of the 3 nodes that I have with exactly the same hardware configuration and the 3 of these nodes are part of a fail over cluster. I disabled the failover cluster, but still see this issue. Any suggestions on other knobs to try to make this cluster more stable?

    Will greatly appreciate any suggestions.

  • Hi,

    Wow, very strong title. :)

Just for your info, i have tested on 3 Intel host (desktop). No problem encounter  as i have running this Centos Vms for two week. Linux Integration Component 3.3 is not supported for Windows Server 2012 Server preview. You can refer to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29991&ocid=aff-n-we-loc--ITPRO40886&WT.mc_id=aff-n-we-loc--ITPRO40886 on the supported OS.

The supported Linux IC for Windows Server 2012 is IC 3.2. For more detail , please refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh831531.aspx

  • Ahha! Good catch. Linux Integration Components is supported on 2012 Release Candidate, but perhaps not on preview.

I ended up reinstalling Windows 2012 server and downgraded to LIC 3.2. I have been using the same VMs that caused BSOD (or should I say frowny face screen in Windows 2012 server) on the fresh install and it has been stable...so far :)

Thanks for point it out. Marking this issue as solved.
