Sequencer and target have to be the same?

So this is the best practice. I'm confused, though, because if I'm migrating from WinXP 32bit to Win7 64bit, isn't App-V supposed to help me with my OS compatibility issues by allowing me to virtualize an app on WinXP and use it on Win7? I understand the neato feature of being able to use different versions of Office, Adobe, et al., on the same version of OS because I can sequence one of them. However, it seems slightly dumb to say best practice is to 'sequence on the same OS as target' when in the sequencer you have to pick which OS the sequenced app will run on. If the application doesn't work on the target OS you have to sequence on the OS which it does work. To me... this is what the sequencer interface is saying when it asks you what targets the sequenced app will run on.

Am I missing something here?

We have sequenced around 5000 applications, just about all have been sequenced on Windows XP SP3.

The target OS being Terminal Server 2003 / Windows XP / Windows 7 (64BIT).

We have Citirx , VDI , Physical the VDI build is XP so we have to base the sequence on this platform for compatibility.

There are very few applications we have had to re-sequence on Windows 7.

For example Symantec Vault for Outlook 2010 when sequenced for XP this worked , when tested in Win7 this gave OLE form error. This was simply resolved by sequencing under windows 7.
