DPM 2007 Console Crashes when clicking on Reporting tab RRS feed

  • Question

  • We experienced two errors this morning with DPM 2007 2.0.8864.0 (on storage server 2003 sp2 Xeon CPUs with 8GB RAM)

first, when we opened the DPM 2007 console Reporting tab we got a pop up:

"DPM could not connect to SQL reporting services server because of iis connectivity issues.  on the computer on which the dpm database was created, restart the world wide web publishing service.  on teh administrative tools menu, select services. right-click world wide web publishing service, and then click start.

    ID: 3013"

we restarted world wide web publishing service and did an iisreset.  we observed the default website was stopped, so we started it.

now when we open DPM 2007 console > reporting, it says 'please wait while reporting is being initialized...' for a few seconds, and then we get a pop up saying

"DPM has encountered a problem and needs to close.  we are sorry for the inconvenience." and continues on about sending the error report to microsoft.

at that point the DPM MMC crashes.  this happens every time we open the Reporting tab.

our reporting website is online and we can browse through it.  all dpm services are started and set to auto-start.  all sql services including reoprting are started and set to auto.

we compared the sql reporting configuration options with another DPM 2007 we support in a different environment and all settings matched.

we confirmed the DPM sql database was not in recovery mode.

the server is in the proper local trusted machine groups.
