Trying to Unistall Vista using a Recovery Partition, can it be done? RRS feed

  • Hey ya'll,

Let's start with the problem.  I'm currently an IT intern at local hospital here in town.  We got a hold of the Vista 64 build 5600 RC1.  We've been playing with it on a few test machines, seeing what it's like, etc.  I took a copy home with me one night and my my fool hearted father, good man, just doesn't know crud about Beta's, decided to install it on his MAIN computer without ever creating any restore/recovery disks, or a new partition for that fact.  Now he wants to revert back to XP Media Edition.  I know I can just reformat the hard drive, reinstall XP pro and call it good, but is there any way to use the recovery partition on his hard drive to revert back to XP media edition and it's factory settings, or is he stuck with just having to take a clean XP Pro OS?
When I reformat the (c:) drive will that erase is Recovery (d:) drive?  After installing XP pro will he be able to access the recovery drive?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.
