why is MS getting so unreliable and difficult RRS feed

  • Question

  • So i needed to use WDS. It sounded like it would solve a few problems. But...

i had to promote my server to a domain controller (install AD). I read about it and thought i'd give it a try.

First it totally messed up my DNS. So i had to spend an entire day getting AD and DNS installed/setup correctly.
MS's own help pages are USELESS. They are full of those annoying comments "to setup AD, click AD setup" with no actual help/details/examples/links to useful.
Event logs show numerous errors "click here to see online help about Event ID ##" ALWAYS comes to a page "no info about this event".
Lots of useful tips about AD are missing, such as Your Admin Account will be removed - you'll get a new Admin Account, so if you have your server setup as you need it, you'll have to do it all again.
And yes i have Outlook installed (we have to!) so now i need to find pw's and re-setup that for 20 email accounts. So yeah i'm pissed about all this.
Ha, "Welcome to MS Office" Help & Improve appears. At the bottom a link, "Get More Info [re turning settings on and off]" - i click the link and i get "There are no help topics..." (i have local & online help enabled). So PATHETIC.

Oh, and AD messes up all your shares. I didnt read that anywhere. i understood i could apply fancy rules and security settings. no one said "you'll HAVE to because everything you've done to date will get screwed over".

And these are just a few of the annoyances i can be bothered to write about. Frankly, i so pissed off with MS bullsht that we are putting together some linux boxes. I thought i'd challange myself - if i can get them working in the same amount of time as windows boxes (and so far its true) - guess where next years budget is going...

If I am all here, does that mean I am not all there?

  • Are you that bored? Nothing to do but get more qualifications?

Which code have i broken? Being pissed off and frustrated when hours of work has been wasted. I doubt even Ms has written rules about that. How about calling the online help Pathetic because i come across numerous bugs and shortcomings. Surely 'Pathetic' is not considered swearing. ( i know MS has an unusual list of swear words contrary to anyone elses lists, but thats a different story).

Maybe if you addressed some of the bugs and shortcomings that are talked about here and elsewhere there would be fewer frustrated users out here in the real world.

Example - 1.5 year old bug. Not fixed. Not addressed.

  • Well i guess you can't blame APPS bugs issues onto a OS level platform..

Apps should be tuned to OS requirements  right ?
