is it a good idea to publish 6000 Line's plan in the project Server 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I have a requirement Were in Customer is trying to publish 6000 lines of 1 plan in the Project server i know publishing takes too ling and i think it is practically not possbile . I have suggested the customer to split the plan in to three alteast and the plan has many special character . To give a valid reason were can i find the Article i am sure there is an article and do' and don't on Server .

It would be very hepful if i get these so that i can maintain the project with limitations since we are using a common instance andfuture plan is to upload some 235 plans in the same intance.

  • Hi Umesh,

Please see below article on "Plan for software boundries":
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197693(v=office.12).aspx

No of task per project is 5000 as per the guidelines for acceptable performance. Though you can have 6000+ Task but the performance might be unacceptable.

This artcile contains all the information about the performance & tested limits.

    Please also see below article:

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Umesh,

There is not any such document but based on the experience, I would suggest to not to use the special (except "_") characters in Project Name/Resource name etc. In Task Name, this should not create any issue.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Umesh,

As Amit suggested, it is best to stay away from special characters. We have seen those even with Task names with earlier versions of CUs deployed.

We found it useful to build a QA report to flag special characters in tasks/project names to eliminate recurring issues and support requests.
