Disk to Disk Backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all, I am wondering if any of you can offer any assistance to my query.  We have DPM 2010 and are currently backing up certain folders on certain servers.  The problem is that we want to schedule different types of backup for different parts of a volume.  For example:

    Say we have server1.

On Server1, on the E:\ drive we want to backup the following:

    Users share

Every Monday to Thursday a recovery point is made against the replica that has been taken and will be retained for 28 days.  Of which, we want to run a full weekly backup on a friday, backing absolutely everything up.  However, there doesn't seem to be an option to do this.

We also want to backup another folder on Server1 E:\drive called Public, but this only needs to be done once a week as it is rarely used and is full of software but I can't create a new protection group based on this server as it has already been included in a previous protection group.  If I add this folder to the existing protection group, it will adopt the settings as outlined above and will therefore be backed up every night.  Is there any other ways that this can be achieved without using Tapes as we don't have any tape functionality.  We currently backup to another server in a different building.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi,

You cannot specify file data on a volume to have different protection goals.  The only way to do that would to be to use volume mountpoints and move the data to different volumes, that way you can put each volume in a seperate PG with desired goals.
