Upload Photo on Skype for Business in Office 365 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a user who has only Skype for Business online License assigned in Office 365, Exchange Online License is not assigned.

Wanted to update profile picture but not able to update profile picture in Skype.  Tools > Options > My Picture > Edit or remove Picture button shows greyed out. Also tried updating using set-photo powershell command no luck - getting error "The operation couldn't be performed because object 'Iain Cartwright' couldn't be found on 'BY2PR03A008DC01.NAMPR03A008.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM'."

Please suggest how to update profile picture.

  • Hi Pyarelal Devadas,

If you want to change SFB picture, you can also try it in OWA, click the option on the top right corner.

Based on my research, Lync 2013/SFB 2015 uses the Exchange service to upload contact photos to the user’s mailbox. If the user doesn’t have an Exchange mailbox, the Edit or Remove Picture button in the Lync/SFB Options is unavailable.

To work around this issue, the admin will have to perform one of the following actions:
If the user doesn’t have an Exchange Online mailbox, assign an Exchange Online license to the user.
Synchronize the thumbnail photo from the on-premises Active Directory.
