  • I believe I am having this issue too on my Surface Pro 3 running 8.1 Pro.

On every reboot, in event manager I get about 11 entries about "Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver failed, error code 0xBC8, HRESULT 0x80070BC8. See the event user data for context information."

    EventID: 215

and one entry "The print spooler failed to regenerate the printer driver information for driver Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver for environment Windows NT x86. Win32 system error code 1633 (0x661).  This can occur after an operating system upgrade or because of data loss on the hard drive."

    EventID: 370

I looked up these 2 and can't never find anything.  I even removed the printer drivers that was originally installed.  I was about to remove the x86 drivers for the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print, but I read there isn't a way to reinstall it if I needed to.

I was wondering if this "hot fix" will fix this problem?

  • Updates KB3038701 and KB3034348 also have this BUG, they does not update registry values and files in %windir%\System32\spool\drivers\... folders.

Looks like somebody in Microsoft forget how to make patches. :(

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Clean Windows 8.1 with Update 3 Installation

    2. Install KB3038701 or KB3034348 or KB3013769

    3. Reboot

    4. Press "Win+R" and type "eventvwr" without quotes

    5. Lets see eight or more "PrintService" RED STOP errors in Administrative Events

Error Microsoft-Windows-PrintService 215 Installing a printer driver Installing printer driver Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver failed, error code 0x0, HRESULT 0x80070661.

    KB3034348 have this BUG

  • Why still no official solution to this problem ?

Running the PowerShell cmdlet Add-PrinterDriver "Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver" generates the same ERROR events.
