All other projects read only (2010) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

This company doesn't use the standard Security Groups nor the standard Categories. The PMs can open their projects Read/Write. That's OK.

But the PMs need to open all the other projects Read Only. On which Permission can I play to do that ?

    Thanks for your help.

  • I found it !

I created 2 categories: for example in a similar case :

1st category: The User is the Project Owner or the User is the Status Manager on assignments within that Project

    Allowed Permissions:

    • Open Project
    • Publish Project
    • Save Project to Project Server

2 nd category: The User is on that project's Project Team

    • Open Project

    Thanks

  • The quick and dirty answer:

    Category permissions:

    • Save Project to Project Server
    • Publish Project

Obviously, it is far more efficient to design your groups and categories more generically, instead of project by project basis.

  • Hi Prasanna,

But Save Project to Project Server and Publish Project are for Read/Write.

They already have Read/Write access for their own project, but they need Read Only for all the other projects (The projects of other PMs)

    Thanks

I would love to jump in and try to answer your question, but the information you have provided us is scant, and hardly enough to try and answer your question.  Here is what we need to know:

    • What is the name of the security Group used by your project managers?
    • What are the names of the Categories included in that security Group?
    • What are the settings and permissions specified in those Categories in the security Group used by project managers?

I have no problem with your company not using the default Groups and Categories, but if you questions about your custom Groups and Categories, you really need to help us by telling us how you have them set up.  Please us know and we will try to help.
