How do I collect Last Viewed date for all Documents in SharePoint? RRS feed

  • Question

  • From a remote PC, I need to query against the SharePoint Usage databases and collect the Last Viewed date and time for all documents stored in our SharePoint farm.  I am new to SharePoint and I am told the Usage data is complicated and encripted.

I have SQL 2005 and MS Access.

  • The SharePoint Audit might help you. Read this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397403(office.12).aspx

  • You cannot get Audit directly from Database. Another option is to develop custom Event Handler and store your audit in your database.

  • The best SharePoint practice is do not touch SharePoint Database directly. You have to use document object model for that.

  • I have to do this through the database, not the front end.

  • I think this is going in the wrong direction.

The data is there in the usage databases now.  I just need to use MS SQL 2005 or other querying tool to get the Last Viewed information.
