Migration from Lync 2013 to Skype for Business Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

We are planning to migrate Lync 2013 to Skype for Business online.

Plan is to setup hybrid, perform the migration and move 100% mailboxes and final cutover, like all dns recovers.

Can someone explain step by step deployment and configuration information ?

    Regards

  • Hi AM,

To migrate Lync 2013 on-premises users to Office 365 Skype for Business online, it is recommended you set up a Lync hybrid deployment. Please refer to the following links:
Configure hybrid with Skype for Business Online
Move users to Skype for Business Online (after the hybrid deployment is done)

Additionally, I understand that the hybrid deployment might be a bit complicated, and I’d like to let you know another option. Here are the steps:
    1. Disable the on-premises accounts by running the Disable-CsUser command. Normally, this command will also remove all those related attributes from the on-premises AD.
    2. Run Directory Sync (with your Azure AD Connect tool) to synchronize  the user accounts to Office 365.
    3. Assign the Skype for Business online licenses to the synchronized user accounts.
    4. Change the related DNS records, such as SRV and CNAME, to Office 365.

Hope this reply is helpful to you.

    Best Regards,
    Alice Wang
