Navigating/zooming the Gantt chart also changes the printed chart. RRS feed

  • Question

  • How can I zoom in/out and navigate the Gantt chart without ruining the printed presentation of the Ganttchart?

This is outrageous. Is a bug? what is the point of this behavior?

Imagine if zooming in Word or Excel would change the way it its printed.

  • Hi Fezipali,

When you print, you print exactly what is on the screen, so if you change the zoom in the Gantt, you change the zoom on the print. Here's what I'd do

    1. Set the zoom for the print correctly.

    2. On the Task tab, select the drop down below the Gantt button.

    3. Save this view, call it Gantt Print.

you now have separate views with separate timescales.

  • No bug and not outrageous. Quite sensible, really.

The page setup is contained in or confined to whatever view is active when you make the various settings in page setup.

Since we tend to work in the Gantt Chart view, and change the timescales on the chart from time to time for different purposes, it is best to not use the Gantt chart view for printing. Better to make a copy of the Gantt chart view (more views etc), and then carefully design the page setup in that view, including the scaling, page size, headers, footers etc.

The work away in the Gantt Chart view, and switch to the specially designed view to print. Like Ben says.

    Any help.
