wsus - clients do not update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

we have WSUS installed in Windows Server 2012 virtual machine and have about 100 computers joined to active directory domain.

recently, we discovered that these machines are not downloading updates and do not have an errors or warnings in the event viewer and when i issue wuauclt command, i get no entry in the command line console.

I would like to know, if there's any means to find what's blocking the update process.

    Thank you

  • Hi,

First confirm that the clients of these batches are built using a unified template? This may result in duplicate SusClientID values.

Please try to delete the "SusClientID" and "SusClientIDValidation" registry values in the key [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate] and then restart the Automatic Updates service.

For reference, if you use sysprep to deploy images for your computer, using the scripts mentioned in the following article can also help you reset your SusClientID: "Script to Reset WSUS for SysPrep’ed Image."

Hope the above can help you.

    Regards,
    Yic

  • Yic is right - more than likely it's the SusClientId issue. See my guide on the all encompassing client side script, along with the reasons WHAT and WHY.

  • Hello, and sorry for the late reply,

These registery keys in the registery of the WSUS server?

I have another annoying problem regarding WSUS, which is,

I cannot view the console correctly, i mean, if i click on Syncronisations for example, the console stops working.

I wonder how i can clear this problem too,

    thank you

As denoted on the previous post - this is a CLIENT side script, and should be run on each individual client system that is experiencing issues.

Please take a read through https://www.ajtek.ca/wsus/client-machines-not-reporting-to-wsus-properly/ as it also explains What, When, Why and How.

Are you performing the proper WSUS maintenance including but not limited to running the Server Cleanup Wizard (SCW), declining superseded updates, running the SQL Indexing script, etc.?

  • Hello Sir,

I believe that we've never done wsus maintenance, and when i read your reply, i tried to run it, but i believe it is not working properly.

I even checked the wsus log file i found under c:\windows\windowsupdate.log that contained lots of unconsistencies, which I uploaded to this link.

    Could you please check it?

    here is the link:

    Thank you,

    Thank you
