MDT 2010 deploying localized OS: Apply Patches step fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am deploying Win7x32 and Win7x64 using MDT 2010.

Client OS are Windows Pro Russian. By default the Administrator user name is Cyrillic.

    There is LTI process.

MDT scripts works perfect if Latin Administrator username changed to Russian «Администратор» in Unattend.xml:

But it is so only until step «Apply Patches» enabled.

Any adding patches and enabling step Apply Patches cause following error:

Console error translating: «Unattend answer file contains formatting errors. Use Windows System Image Manager for error fixing and repeat operation with correct answer file».

Probably the error root is in different codepages for command processor and DISM. In Russian localized OS CMD and cscript use codepage CP866 by default, but DISM (and wscript, too) use Windows 1251 codepage.

    MDT Server OS: 2012 R2.

    MDT version: 6.1.2373.0.

    AIK version: 6.1.7600.16385.

How to enable Apply Pathes step?

  • Could be as simple as adding a CDATA block around the command in the unattend.xml file.

However, it's possible that there are *OTHER* problems with the unattend.xml file, and we should get the exact error code first. Please consult the panther logs, and if you are still having problems please upload the logs to a public site like OneDrive and share the link.
