Vista Business upgrade is not bootable so how do you perform a repair? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I upgraded XP Pro to Vista Business now a couple of weeks later Vista will not boot - the problem was caused by a CRC problem on my HDD that chkdsk fixed.  Now im stuck in a loop with vista restarting -- i want to repair Vista now but the business upgrade version is not bootable.  Has anyone got any ideas how to achieve a repair.

  • Stephen,

All the DVD's and the upgrades are bootable. Check in your bios and make sure the the boot order is set to floppy (if you have one) CD/DVD rom and the you Hard Disk. and then retry the installation.

  • Thanks for the reply Chris.

The version we received came on 4 CDs and they are definitely not bootable - could be a problem with the media i suppose (i will have to chase up the full version on DVD) -- i got into the repair tools anyhow by booting from a Vista Beta DVD instead - no luck with the system restore etc.  I guess I’ll have to install XP and upgrade that again to Vista.

    Thanks Again.
