Hi Sylvia,
By default, appointments marked private should show a lock icon and the words 'Private Appointment'.
How many users are affected by this issue? Which permission do other users have on the shared calendar?
Can you see the same behavior if we check the calendar from within OWA?
We may also try to reset the view of the shared calendar in case the private items were hidden by a filter. To do this, open the shared calendar, click View tab > Reset View.
