  • Question

  • Hello

I have sfb frnt end, edge and reverse proxy working fine for pc users from AD, I have an office 365 account with domain si.com now i want all users of this domain of office 365 to use my sfb, how do i make all si.com users to use the sfb setup of abc.com?

I did try to go to admin centre of si.com and add domain, it is asking to add few dns records in ABC.com but when i add it says same record exists...for eg sip record point to edge and stuff...nw if i change those sip records to sipdir.online.lync.com then will my existing AD users be affected, as it is live enivronment...i don knw what to do as i dont want to ceate errors....also m not very familiar with all this....how do i now so i dont mess up with DNS

  • Hi Lexi,

Based on your description, I understand that you want SFB online user could use SFB on premise service.

For this situation, you could configure SFB hybrid, hybrid connectivity between Skype for Business Server and Skype for Business Online means users of a domain, such as contoso.com, are split between using Skype for Business Server on premises and Skype for Business Online. Some of the domain users are homed on premises, and some users are homed online.

The following blog describes how to do hybrid, please refer to
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/canitpro/2015/12/23/step-by-step-skype-for-business-2015-hybrid-configuration/

Moreover, after the hybrid, you could migrate users in SFB online to SFB on premise, then SFB online accounts could use SFB server.

  • You would need to set up hybrid between on prem SFB server and SFB online

    in that way:-

    1. There would be a trust created(THe on prem user wil be able to see presence/chat with online user and viceversa)

    2. You can move SFB on prem users to SFB online(ON boarding and off boarding)

    3. The on prem SFB user wil use existing PBX and cloud users will use Microsoft office 365 cloud PBX

Alice has already shared an article to configure the hybrid set up

  • Hi Lexi,

You don't have to add abc.com in O365 admin center, you need to set up hybrid environment according to the link above.

    Answer to ist question:-

abc.com is a separate/individual  SFB sip domain whose services are registered on ON-prem set up. The SI.com is a separate/individual  SFB sip domain which is a hosted SFB platform i.e. O365.

THe si.com wil have SFB online and can make use of Lync presence/IM/Audio video calls/Meeting sharing etc.

THe only way you can make si.com sip domain talk with abc.dom domain is by setting up hybrid set up between the two domains

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    2. ANswer to second question

Right because SI.COM SIP domains DNS records are pointing to O365 and abc.com sip domains DNS records are pointing towards ON prem set up

Do not change the dns records for abc.com as it wil break your existing set up

When you configure the hybrid set up between abc.com and si.com sip domains, the si.com sip domain wil be added as an additional sip domains in your on-prem sfb server and all the users associated with si.com has to be present in abc.com AD as disabled accounts (If different AD forest) and if same forest then the users of si.com wil already be present in your abc.com AD as a child domain or forest

  • it is the edge server that helps to set up federation between on prem and 0365

You would need to create the hosting provider and allow discovery based on external DNS (That is already published)

The above article is meant to establish the federation. Just follow the instructions and it should work

@O365 end, you wont have to do much as it would be an open federation by default
