HKLM\System does not include CurrentControlSet RRS feed

  • Question

  • It is about crashed Vista installation.

I try to repair this Vista by manipulating few registry keys.

Don't worry, this installation is already damaged, one can not damage a lot now.

When proceeding to achieve the aimed goal I figure out that

CurrentControlSet key is not present in HKLM\System.

Only three items of ControlSetXXX, where XXX=2, or 3, or 4 are available.

Is the lack of CurrentControlSet critical for operation of this OS?

Content of Select key seems to be plausible.

  • CurrentControlSet is a virtual key. It is really ControlSet00n. The setting as to what n it is is stored under HKLM\SYSTEM\Select.
