Delete Application RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get the error message: An object of the type Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPIisWebsiteUnprovisioningJobDefinition named "Unprovisioning EISPortal" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebService named "".  Rename your object or delete the existing object. when I try to delete a web application. The reason I am trying to delete the application is that I was unable to browse it. Any troubleshooting assistance will be appreciated. I also deleted the shared services provider hoping it would delete any websites in it. Thank you.

Solution: Cllick on the Timer Job Definition and delete the Unprovisionning web application from the list.

  • I'm having the same problem, when I create a new web application no IIS website is created, and if I create a site collection for the new web applicaiton it gives me a created with success message but I can't access it. I get "An object of the type  Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPIisWebsiteUnprovisioningJobDefinition named "Unprovisioning SharePoint - 44" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebService named "".  Rename your object or delete the existing object." when trying to delete the web application. Have you got any luck? Thanks.

We're facing the exact same error messages and can't delete or recreate the application.  We really need a resolution, would be great if someone could post an answer........

  • Spoke too soon - a good old fashioned reboot just fixed the problem.  I was able to delete the application after everything came  back up.

  • We haven't tried to reboot the server yet, but we restarted the all the services (in the cluster) and done iisreset on all of them... I guess that we have only that approach left, the problem is that this moss instalation is being used in production, but I guess the worst thing that can happen is for them to wait for some minutes while all the servers reboot.
This cluster has one indexing server, one search server, one front-end, and a separate sql server cluster. There were two front-ends but due to electrical problems one had a hardware permanent failure and was removed it from the central administration configuration. We even tried to configure a new shared services provider but we couldn't because the shared services admin site was never accessibile (of course it appeared on the central admin)...

Did you notice what may have caused this in the first place ?

  •  Clicking on the Job name will open up the job settings, the Delete button can be found here.
