Migrate Distribution Point RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are in the process of migrating from SCCM 2012 R2 to SCCM 1602 using a new site code.  We basically have a two server build with the database/reporting on one server (database server) and the roles (distribution point, management point, etc) on the other (primary site server).

I have already migrated over all the applications, packages, OS deployment, etc to the new server server.  However, I am unable to use the Distribution Point Migration wizard to move the distribution point which I understand is due to the site system role (and others) being part of the primary site server.  The question is, how can I migrate this:

    •  Can I just setup a new deployment for each application/package on the SCCM 1602 server?  Will this have any effect on the workstation when the client is migrated?
    • Would following the steps outline here work between different sites codes:  https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/kensmith/2013/08/01/migrating-the-content-library-between-distribution-points-in-sccm-2012-sp1/
    • Should I just bite the bullet and setup yet another server just for the distribution point (trying to avoid)?
    • Is there a manual process?
    • Any other possible solutions?

    Thank you!

  • Why do you need to use the old site server as a DP?

You've already got a new DP setup so all you need to do is distribute the content to this new DP.

  • No. Migration is for migrating one site's configuration to another and has nothing to do with content.

Are you truly moving the content from an old DP to a new DP?

    This should help you: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/kensmith/2013/08/01/migrating-the-content-library-between-distribution-points-in-sccm-2012-sp1/

  • There is nothing special to do here, just distribute the Packages/Applications to the new DP, which will show up as an option under the Distribution Wizard. One suggestion is to first create a Distribution Group and add that server BEFORE you distribute your Packages/Applications. You would then distribute your Packages/Applications to the new Distribution Group so in the future, if you add a new DP and simply add it to the same Distribution Group, all your Packages/Applications will automatically be distributed...
