How to install OS using bootable USB in Hyper-V guest RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have prepared a Windows 8 Consumer Preview bootable USB flash disk. I am trying to install Win8 on a Hyper-V guest and unable to find a way to have the Hyper-V guest boot from USB. Any help is appreciated!

  • Hi!

Unfortunately, Hyper-V does not support passing through USB devices to guests. You can try set it as "offline" in the host disk manager and use it as a pass-through disk connected to the VM's IDE controller. Note that this does not always work with all USB drives.

  • Setting offline didnt work as you suggested... However I understand, I'll try and use an ISO instead. Thanks!
