split scope and out of leases RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi,

setup : split scope on Windows 2008 R2, second dhcp server has delay of 1000 ms

Following is not clear from the documentation.

Question : if the first dhcp server runs out of leases, does a client then still get an ip from the second dhcp server?

  • Hi Peter,

Yes that is exactly what the Split scope wizard allows in Windows Server 2008 R2.

When DHCP Server1 cannopt offer a lease, DHCP server 2 takes over until it either rus out of addresses or until the DHCP server 1 can once again offer a lease.

Here is the TechNet article to help.
