SharePoint Timer Jobs for "Huge Jobs" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I was originally going to create a regular windows service that does a large import (to a website) each night and could take hours (12 or so) to complete.

What are people's real world experience of using SharePoint Timer Jobs for such large jobs?

NB This isn't importing to SharePoint, it just has some benefits of being able to login over the web to see how the import is doing and making use of logging within SharePoint etc.

  • Ben,

Horses for courses. This isn't anything to do with SharePoint, and SP doesn't need the load on its servers. Do it on a different server if possible, and just build user credentials object to do authentication.

Timer jobs aren't suitable for this - benefits you cite are marginal.

    Hope this helps.
