Remove original Exchange 2003 server from Forest RRS feed

  • Question

  •
Question: Here is the scenario.  I have one forest with three domains.

Domain A had the first domain controller and First Exchange 2003 server in the forest.
We then created Domain B, which has an Exchange 2007 server.

Then we created Domain C, which has an Exchange 2003 server.

We had to install an Exchange 2003 server first, so that the Exchange 2007 server would see the Domain C Exchange 2003 server in its Exchange Organization.

So, now in our Exchange Organization, we have three administrative groups.  Domain A, Domain B, and Domain C.

My question is, when I remove Domain A's only Exchange 2003 server and remove Domain A's only domain controller, will this harm my current mailflow or active directory?

  • Dependings. It is not only the only Exchange server in DomainA, but also the first Exchange server in your organization. It is hightly recommended to keep it shutting down for several weeks and then remove it from the computer.

  • Hi,

Not if you remove the systems properly (use uninstall).

Just to make sure you could start by stopping all exchange services on the first server and wait a couple of days to see if anything does occur.
