  • Hi,

    There are actually a couple of ways to check if you have Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS). I would also like to clarify that its independent of your SQL Server installation and is actually a part of Visual Studio Installation.

    1. Browse to the location where Visual Studio is installed and look for the file 'devenv.exe'. On my machine, its at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe"

    2. You can go through the Start menu and navigate sql server 2005 and check if it has been added to the start menu. The Caveat here is that BIDS may be installed, but just not added to the start menu ! On machine, I navigate to it through Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio.

    2. You can launch Visual Studio , click on the "File" Menu > New > project. A "New project" window should pop-up. Check is "Integration Services project" shows as one of the Visual Studio Installed Templates, as seen in the screen shot below;

    Through there checks, if you discover that BIDS is not installed on your machine, please refer to this thread for the options available for installing BIDS;

  • Hi, search for file "devenv.exe".  Mine is in folder "(drive)\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE".

    If you just want to install Business Intelligence Development check this thread:
