Scorecard Doesn't Show Dimension Heirachy When Using Filter RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm trying to get a scorecard to display the dimension heirarchy that is selected using a member-select filter.  Whenever I connect the filter to the scorecard dimension the scorecard no longer shows the entire heirarchy, rather it shows just the particular member that was selected from the filter.

When designing the scorecard in Dashboard Designer, you can see the entire dimension heirarcy of the member selected.  The problem only occurs when you connect the filter to the scorecard in the dashboard.

Notice in the screenshots that you can't really tell what level of the heirarchy you're in when looking at the scorecard.  Is there anyway to force the heirarchy to appear in the scorecard?

    Thanks!

    Ryan

  • Try using Filter Link formula along with DESCENDANTS functions like

    DESCENDANTS ( <<SourceValue>>, , SELF_AND_AFTER)

This would give you current selected level along with all the levels after it. See reference for more variations.

    DESCENDANTS (MDX)

  • Umair, thanks for the suggestion, I haven't been able solve my issue using the Decendants function, though I see how you can do some interesting things in the scorecard using that function in the connection formula.  When I use the decendants function in the connection formula it repeats the entire second dimension in my scorecard.  I've tried using the Ancestors as well as the Acendants function and still can't produce the results I want.

Since my filter is a member select filter on a dimension with a heirarchy, when i select a child member in the heirarchy in the filter, and connect that to the dimension in the scorecard, it only shows the single element, as the screenshots show above.  What i really want is something like this.

    As of Headcount Scorecard

      2007300

         On Campus

            On Campus Phase 1

                  2006-03-28

                         Business Administration

                         Communication & Fine Arts

  • Dear Ryan,

You are putting the descendants in the scorecard as i can see from your result, what is actually hapenning is that scorecard is actually doing a cross join between the dimensions you are using. There is 2 suggestions here and both are on the cube level:

    - try to make relations between the different dimensions and the shared Fact in the dimension usage.

if that doesn't fix your problem

    - Create a new dimension hierarchy that will actually be used in the scorecard.

  • If you connect a filter to the scorecard the members will be flattened and will not stay in a hierarchy state like you would probably like to see in an expand and collapse state.  You are able to drill up and down, but not see the members in a tree view.

This has been posted in previous threads and I am not aware of any fix or resolution for this:
