DPM 2016 has started to fail to back up SharePoint Farm RRS feed

  • Question

  • About a week ago, my DPM 2016 system 5.0.361 started failing to back up my SharePoint farm. I'm getting the following error when running a consistency check:

An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The media is write protected (0x80070013))

No configuration changes have been made either to the SharePoint farm or DPM.  I'm using disk backup.

Any help is appreciated.  Again, this had been working for a long time up to this point.

  • Hello!

Have you checked for any Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) problem on the affected SharePoint server? Check the Application event log for any VSS errors.

Also what is your result if you run the following command in a Command Prompt:

    vssadmin list providers

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • No VSS errors and "vssadmin list writers" shows the SharePoint write to be in a "No Error" state.  Here's the "vssadmin list providers" output:

  • DPM and SharePoint has not always been playing a long from own experience, your VSS providers look okay and if no VSS errors it makes this more difficult.

Have you tried removing the protected objects from the protection group (with retain data) and re-add it to the protection group?
