Check the size of a task sequence

    Question

  • I found a post that stated the max size for a task sequence is 10MB.  Apparently, I've hit that limit because I'm getting an error stating "too many steps in the task sequence object."  I have under 50 steps in the TS.  I removed a few steps and the error went away.

Where are task sequences stored so I can check on the size?
    Thank you,

    Z

The size of the resulting TS XML file should not exceed 4MB.

  • Nathan,

Thank you for the reply containing the max TS size.

I have no idea where the "resulting TS XML file" is stored.  I searched for *.xml under the config manager install directory - lots of xml files, but I don't see one that's related to my TS.  I exported the TS (perhaps that's what you meant by resulting TS xml file) and it's under 50KB.

Is there a limit on the number of steps allowed per TS?

  • Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! The easiest way to check the TS size would be to export it and check the size of the resulting xml file.  I have no reason to believe there is a limit to the number of steps, just to the file size.

    Cheers,
    Nathan
