  • Hi josetellan,

You could create and deploy the Timer Job in either of the farms...and the steps are the ones you have mentioned :-)

  • Hi josetellan,

I think it depends on the integration level you need: only read information scenarios or CRUD scenaruios. It also depends on the topology you are using for both farms: are they independent or are they sharing some services?

Anyway, from the lists of choices you have provided I would exclude BCS and External lists (are the same concept) because they are thought for accesing external data (legacy data) in SharePoint...regarding to the others:

    • For read scenarios SP Web Services and Federated Search would work.
    • For CRUS scenarios, you can only use SP Web Services.

Additionally to these choices, please dont' forget the client object model.

    Regards

  • Thank you Juan Carlos,

i want to tell you what i want to do and if you dont mind i would want you to answer me the best option. i have two farms (portalComercial 2 servers farm [SP + SQL]...and portalEmpleado 2 servers farm [SP + SQL]. PortalComercial has a news subsite called "Noticiario" and news have to be shown in portalEmpleado home page. PortalEmpleado only has to show news so it is an only read request. My customer wants a workflow copy news list items from portal Comercial to a SPList in portalEmpleado every night.

can i code this funtionality throught visual studio 2010 workflow connecting both farms......can i connect these two farms by only one visual studio project?? where do i have to install the .WSP file....in comercial farm??....empleado farm??...both??? do i have to use SPWebServices calls in workflow code ???

if you think the best option is federated search let me know why and if you give me some interested links i would thank you.

    thanksssss

  • Hi josetellan,

Instead of creating a workflow, I would create a SharePoint Timer Job that performs the operation you need...and yes, you will have to do SPWebServices calls in the Timer Job code or use the SharePoint Client Object model for writing data in PortalEmpleado...I think this approach is better thant the federated search one.

  • hi again,

i want to enumerate steps for your consideration...do you mind??

CREATE TIMER JOB in consumer Farm: (my customer doesn´t want a workflow, only wants that funtionality and he wants this process starts every sunday)

    - Connect to Publisher Farm via SPWebService lists.asmx ( URL, credentials, etc...)

    -get items from publisher list

-get consumer list referrence via SP object Model

    -write data items

do i have to set any configuration on publisher farm???

    thanksssssss

  • Hi again Juan Carlos,

i have a new problem with this. The only value filed i can´t retrieve from publishing farm is PublishingPageImage. if i open the returned "XLMNode.innertext" by calling "getListItems" of SPWebService Lists.asmx i can see that field but i can´t see any value or bytes of the image....this field is in default list view of Publishing list.

my next try was Imaging.asmx SPWebService but it only works with Picture Librarys.

and the other option i think is (as you mentioned in a previous entry) Federated Search.

Do you think if it is possible with this approach.

    many thanks for your help.
