Exchange 2010 install fails on step 9 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Installing on a new server, built just for Exchange Server.  Readiness Test items all pass.  Install ran cleanly till step 9, Hub Transport Role.  Failed with the following error messages.

    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); $vdirName = "PowerShell"; $InternalPowerShellUrl="http://" + $RoleFqdnOrName + "/powershell"; new-PowerShellVirtualDirectory $vdirName -InternalUrl $InternalPowerShellUrl -DomainController $RoleDomainController -BasicAuthentication:$false -WindowsAuthentication:$false -CertificateAuthentication:$true -RequireSSL:$false;" was run: "An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://TRICOR-EXCH.Tricor-PDC.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/PowerShell' on 'TRICOR-EXCH'.".

    An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://TRICOR-EXCH.Tricor-PDC.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/PowerShell' on 'TRICOR-EXCH'.

    Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    Elapsed Time: 00:24:25

    IIS is installed and I have had no luck finding anything in FAQ's or other forums about this.  Maybe I am missing something.  The server is running MS Server 2008 R2, 4Gb memory, will only be used for Exchange 2010.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • If the server is not operational yet, I wouldn't waste my time trying to fix the issue. Rather re-install the OS and try again. Something might have gone wrong during the initial setup.

  • Hi,

    Try to remove the .NET version reinstall it again and then install the latest updates for .NET then try again. For further analyses please post the log files setup created, then can be found in c:\exchangesetuplogs

  • Hi there

    I have had exactly the same problem installing Exchange 2010 on a Server 2008 R2 DC.

    I have resolved by re-installing all the Exchange prerequisites using

    even though on previous servers I have set up did not require this.  After rebooting from the pre-req installs, I then re-ran the Exchange setup and this completed successfully.

    Hope this helps you as your post was the only one I found with exactly the same problem

    Good luck!

  • The Exchange 2010 Installation Wizard misses the "Remote Server Admin Tools -> Role Admin Tools -> Web Server (IIS) Tools" as the prerequisit of H/T Server.
