CatalogData folder too big on passive server in DAG RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a two Exchange 2010 server DAG.  One is active and the other is mounted but passive.

On at least two of the replicated and mounted databases on the passive server, the CatalogData folder is too big.

I noticed inside of them, they have old .ci and .dir files from last year.....really long ago and I need to get rid of them.

Can I delete them safely without affecting the DAG and/or replication?

What is the best way to do this on the passive server without affecting any mail flow or the DAG?

  • Simply stop the Exchange Indexing service on the server and delete the catalog folder and restart the indexing service. Or update-mailboxdatabasecopy  (ServerCopy) -catalogonly
