Active databases on a DAG member server query RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can the databases on a DAG member server be stand alone databases? I mean the Exchange Server is a stand alone Exchange Server for some databases, and is a DAG member server for other databases. Is this possible? Any resources indicating how this works will help.

  • When you have added two MBX servers (or more) to a DAG, these servers are simply DAG members (no database replication is occuring yet). You need to add a DB copy/add DB copies as the next step, so to answer your question you don't necessarily need to replicate all DBs on all DAG member servers. You can pick which once should be replicated.

  • A good example would be public folder databases. A PF database can be on a DAG member, but you cannot use the DAG DB copy feature to create multiple copies of a PF database.
